Some customers may encounter licensing problems with FilmLab AI. This guide covers all possible scenarios and explains how to properly set up and manage licenses.
Licensing Methods for FilmLab AI
There are two main ways to license FilmLab AI:
1. Licensing Inside the Application

Enter your license directly into any of the FilmLab AI plugins.

Once applied, all other FilmLab AI plugins will automatically pick up the license.

We recommend licensing via the iNode or oNode plugin.
⚠️ Important:

You must install the special FilmLab versions of the plugins:

LookDesigner FL
-
GrainLab FL
-

These “FL” versions are required because they support the unique FilmLab license.

Standard LookDesigner or GrainLab licenses are not compatible with FilmLab AI.

If you own both standard and FL licenses, we recommend using only the FL license, as it covers the entire FilmLab bundle.
2. Licensing via Server
FilmLab AI also supports licensing through a server, similar to the Colourlab AI server but dedicated to FilmLab.
How it works:

Install the FilmLab AI Licensing Server on any computer in your facility.

Enter your license code inside one FilmLab AI plugin (on that machine).

The server recognizes the license and distributes it across your network.

Other systems connect to the server by pointing the plugins to the server’s IP address.
Benefits:

Supports floating licenses.
-
Automatically allocates or frees up seats as needed.

Allows multiple systems to run FilmLab AI using a single server.
Using FilmLab AI and Colourlab AI Together
If you own both FilmLab AI and Colourlab AI, there’s one critical detail to follow:

The FilmLab AI server does not support Colourlab AI.

To run both systems together:

Install FilmLab AI first.
-
Then install Colourlab AI.
-

This ensures the Colourlab AI server is the last installed and will correctly handle Colourlab AI licensing.
